Happy Birthday to me!
February 25th, 2008
Consider this a warning. Be ready for additional birthday announcements! I, along with my friends Bryce, Rob, and Adam all have birthdays this week. For my celebration, I started the weekend before. We had a FD Hackerz LAN party on Saturday. Bryce came up and we inducted a few new members to TeamPalit from the FD crew. To be honest, we’re starting to get a significant number of people on the team, here in Iowa. Also, Candice supprised me with my present, a weekend early. She gave me a really nice Fossil watch for my birthday. It’s a momentum winding watch that never needs the batteries replaced. It looks really stylish and has all kinds of neat gears in the background that you can see moving.
The next weekend, I was really torn. I absolutely LOVE Buzzard Billies. I had just gotten over a cold and had been thinking about having some spicy crawfish etoufee for dinner. The problem was, I also really wanted to go to Hu-Hot, a newer Asain restaurant in town. Marcus has been talking about it for months now, and they (his roomies and him) make special trips to go. I really like Asian food, so it was a tough decision. Luckily for me, I didn’t have to decide! We ended up doing Hu-Hot for lunch and Buzzard Billies for dinner. The food was great but the conversations were better.
Saturday night we ended up talking about movies and picking our favorite for each genre. I wished we’d kept a list, because there were some great discussions. Sad thing was, with out Josh and Kelli we didn’t have the Woods’ experts on hand. However, Marcus was there to fill the gap. Some of the movies we talked about were: Gattica, The Big Lebowski, The Guns of Navarone, The Matrix, and Airplane. I wished we could have kept going, but as the evening closed, we decided to quit talking about them and start watching them. Mom and I stayed up and watched the Big Lebowski that night. I need to start screening movies before I let my mom watch them…
To those of you who were around on my birthday, and to those of you who took time to wish me a happy one, thank you.
Flip this house
February 2nd, 2008
In an attempt to improve the sale ability of our home, Candice and I spent the weekend taking stuff to storage, tidying up, and redecorating. Our hope is that with the repairs we have scheduled, we can get a sign in the yard in the VERY near future. The sooner the house is sold, the sooner we can start settling in Des Moines.
Here’s some pictures of the living room from the weekends work.
Also, I am really searching hard for a job right now, but it doesn’t seem the process has really picked up any. I think with the current market trends, many companies are dragging their feet on new hires.
iSwitched
February 1st, 2008
So last weekend Candice and I switched cell phone providers. I had been with US cellular for around 10 years and after a long stint with them, we decided it was time to move on. About a month ago Candice announced she’d had enough with her phone and once our contract was up we’d both get iPhones. Well, as it turns out, she wasn’t as excited about it as I was, and the discount she gets at AT&T only applies if she gets a different type of phone. Therefore, Candice got a nice new Blackberry Curve. She’s enjoying her new phone. I think she’s finally understanding the hype of PDA phones and taking to them quickly. I’ve even recieved a couple of on-the-fly pictures she’s sent to me.

I, on the other hand, was still stuck on getting the iPhone. It’s a technical marvel that I never thought I’d get to use. I’m really grateful that we were able to get it. The phone is really easy to setup. Connect to iTunes and away you go. The phone is really intuitive as well. Once I figured out where the “on” button was, the rest was just a matter of finding my way around. Nothing was overly difficult or painful. I am considering adding a whole review section on my techy purchases for people to see, but for now I’ll keep the review-ish talk to a minimum. Just know after a week of owning the phone… iLove my iPhone.

Changing of the guards
January 28th, 2008
As many of you know, I am a member of TeamATi, a sponsored computer gaming team. However, following a recent job change for one of our team members, we as a team were approached by Palit Microsystems, (HK) Ltd. They knew what AMD/ATi was providing for us and they offered us a sweeter deal. So, as of last weekend, we’ve now made the transition from TeamATi to TeamPalit. Please check out the website (http://www.teampalit.com) and provide any feedback as you can. We have been working to create a visually appealing website, even though we are trying to stick as close as possible to Palit’s website look.
